Education correlates with numerous chronic issues that the government, in general, is fighting. We cannot fight poverty, unemployment, drugs, delinquency without first tackle the problem within our communities that is education. Without the proper knowledge, our minorities are most likely not going to be eligible to pursue higher education and, therefore, not obtain decent-paying jobs.

Although public education is free, minorities living in urban and poor communities are mistreated in the public system. They do not receive equal education as their peers who live in the wealthier district. The resources are scarce, and their education suffers.

The charter school system is an innovation that could allow those children to opt for better education by choosing to attend one of those schools. Charter schools are aiming at changing the conversation and offer more equality slowly to the public system. It offers minorities the choice to go to a more accountable school within the public school system

Decades ago, marijuana was a highly controversial and illegal drug in the United States. Although still controversial, some states have come to legalize it despite that it is still considered illegal on a federal level. The legalization of the drug does not come without burden. Now states must control, regulate, and tax the product. Each state has come up with its unique structure to maximize the revenue they could get from the commercialization of the product while maintaining a fair game. Since taxing, in general, have always raised citizen scrutiny, it is imperative that the tax is considered “good” by all. Throughout the years, scholars have debated the core qualities that tax should demonstrate to be appealing to citizens: Adequacy, fairness, simplicity, transparency, and collectability. This paper analyses the tax on marijuana with those core qualities as metrics to determine that the tax is indeed “a good tax”.
